Dialshelf privacy policy

Effective October 25, 2026.

The short version

Dialshelf has no analytics and no advertising, and your dials never pass through a server of ours. They live in your browser. With the sync plan they travel to your other computers through your browser’s own sync or a private folder in your own Google Drive. Pictures you add stay on each device unless you sync with Google Drive; screenshots and fetched logos never leave the device. You can turn sync off at any time. Error reports to XT3 are optional and stay off unless you turn them on.

What Dialshelf stores, and where

On your device: the sites you save as dials (address, title, visit count), your groups, your settings and look, and any pictures you add or capture, kept in your browser’s extension storage. Logos for popular sites ship inside the extension, and showing them contacts no one. Screenshots, logo lookup and covers are optional and off by default; those pictures stay on your device. When screenshots are on, Dialshelf saves a picture of a saved site’s page while you have it open, once it has finished loading. Before taking it, it checks three things only: whether the page has stopped changing, whether it is scrolled to the top, and whether a password field is showing (sign-in pages are never captured). It reads counts and yes/no answers, never the page’s text or what you type, and the picture is never uploaded or synced. Bookmarks and recently closed tabs are read locally only if you choose to import or search them. Open tabs are read once, only if you use “Save all tabs” and grant tab access. Dialshelf also keeps backup copies of your shelf on your device so you can restore it: one a day for the last 7 days, and one just before each sync changes your shelf. These backups never leave the device.

The sync plan ($10 a year, or $29 once)

Everything in Dialshelf is free except sync between computers. You can try sync free for 7 days. After that, sync is a yearly plan ($10 a year) or a one-time lifetime key ($29), both bought from XT3 on Gumroad (shop.xt3.us). Gumroad handles the payment and gives you a license key; Dialshelf never sees your card. The lifetime key is a Gumroad license key too, and Dialshelf checks it exactly like the yearly key. When you enter the key, and about once a week after that, Dialshelf sends the key and the plan’s product ID to Gumroad’s license API (api.gumroad.com) to check it is active. Gumroad answers with the purchase status and the email it was bought with, which the account panel shows and keeps on your device. The key is also saved in your browser’s extension sync storage so your other signed-in browsers can unlock sync without typing it again; if you sign in with Google, it is also kept in Dialshelf’s private app data folder in your own Google Drive, so signing in on another computer brings it along. Gumroad’s privacy policy covers the purchase itself.

Sync through your browser account

Dialshelf saves a compressed copy of your dials, groups and settings in the browser’s extension sync storage (chrome.storage.sync, or Firefox Sync). If you are signed in to your browser with sync on, the browser carries that copy to your other computers through its own sync service (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Mozilla for Firefox), under that service’s own privacy terms. Brave keeps extension data on the computer, and Dialshelf says so (“This device only”); use Google sign-in there. Pictures and backgrounds never go into browser sync. To show how many devices share your shelf, each device saves a short entry with its browser and system name (for example “Brave on Windows”) and when it last synced. Your account email is shown only if you tap “Show my account email”, which asks the browser for permission (identity.email).

Sync with Google Drive (optional)

If you sign in with Google, Dialshelf stores a copy of your dials, groups, settings and the pictures you add, and your sync-plan license key (not screenshots or fetched logos) in the Dialshelf app data folder (appDataFolder) of your own Google Drive: a hidden folder only this extension can access, counted against your own Drive storage. We cannot see it and it does not pass through any server of ours. The extension asks Google for that folder only (drive.appdata) plus your account email, which the account panel shows so you can tell which account is connected. Signing out stops sync; the copy in your Drive stays until you delete it. Dialshelf’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What leaves your device

Websites you open, like any link. Web searches go to the search engine you choose (Google by default). If you turn on the optional logo lookup or covers, Dialshelf requests each saved site’s home page once (except sites whose logo is built in), plus the icon and social image it points to; the sites you saved and the public servers hosting their pictures are contacted (addresses that point at your own network are refused), and the pictures stay on your device. In Chrome and Edge, site icons come from the browser’s own icon cache; in Firefox they are requested from each saved site. If you set a picture by link, the browser loads it from that address. Sync traffic goes between your browser and its sync service, or Google Drive. License checks send your key to Gumroad, as above. “Help & feedback” and “Report a problem” open your own email app with a message to [email protected] that fills in only the Dialshelf version and your browser’s name; nothing is sent until you press send. Error reports are optional and off by default (Settings › More). When you turn them on, a sync or sign-in failure sends the Dialshelf version, your browser’s name, an error code and a short error message, with web addresses, email addresses and keys removed, to the XT3 platform inbox (platform.ianxt3.net), at most once a day for each kind of error. A report contains nothing else, and turning the setting off stops them. After you remove the extension, the browser opens xt3.us/dialshelf/bye, which receives only the version number. Nothing else is sent, and Dialshelf does not load or run remote code.

What we collect

Nothing, unless you turn on error reports. XT3 receives no analytics, no identifiers and no crash reports from Dialshelf. If you turn on error reports, XT3 receives only the details listed under “What leaves your device”.

Permissions

storage and unlimitedStorage keep your dials, settings and pictures on your device. activeTab reads the current page’s title and address when you click the toolbar button or use the shortcut, and optionally takes its screenshot. contextMenus adds the right-click item. favicon shows site icons from the browser’s cache. identity signs you in with Google for optional sync. alarms checks for synced changes every few minutes when sync is on. scripting runs the screenshot check described above, only when screenshots are on. Asked only when you use the feature: bookmarks, sessions, tabs, identity.email, access to api.gumroad.com (to check a sync-plan key), and access to sites for logo lookup, covers and screenshots.

Children

Dialshelf collects no data from anyone, including children; the only exception is an error report, and only if you turn error reports on.

Your control

Export your dials any time in Settings › Your data. Removing the extension deletes the on-device data. Turning sync off stops it; the copy in browser sync storage goes when you remove the extension from every device. To delete data synced to Google Drive, remove Dialshelf from your Google Account’s third-party apps and delete its hidden app data in Google Drive settings.
