Unreel

One blocker for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Reddit and more. Free, and it collects nothing.

Unreel privacy policy

Effective October 25, 2026 (version 0.3).

The short version

Unreel collects nothing. It has no analytics, no accounts and no servers of ours, and it never sends what you browse anywhere. Unreel is a browser extension made by XT3 LLC.

What Unreel does on your device

Unreel runs on the social sites it covers (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest and Snapchat). On those sites it hides short-video shelves and video posts (and, if you switch them on, ads or the whole site), and it sends pure short-video pages to its own “blocked” page instead. To spot sponsored posts it looks for a short label like “Sponsored” in the page, on your device. All of this happens inside your browser. Unreel doesn’t read your messages, your account or what you type.

What Unreel stores, and where

Your settings: which sites and categories are on, strict mode, shared-link mode and any rules you add yourself. These are kept in the browser’s extension sync storage. If you’re signed in to your browser with sync on, the browser carries them to your other computers through its own sync service (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Mozilla for Firefox), under that service’s own terms. Otherwise they stay on this computer. On this device only: a 5-minute pause if you start one, and simple counters (how many things were hidden today and in total). They never leave the device. While a tab is open: how many items were hidden on that tab, for the toolbar badge. It’s forgotten when the tab closes.

What leaves your device

Nothing, automatically: Unreel makes no network requests of its own. “Report a problem” opens your own email app with a message to [email protected]. The only details filled in are the Unreel version, your browser’s name, the site’s name and the first part of the page address (for example “/reel/”). Full addresses are never included, and nothing is sent until you press send. “Support Unreel” opens the tip page on Gumroad (xt3.gumroad.com) in a new tab. Gumroad’s own privacy policy covers anything you buy there. After you remove the extension, your browser opens https://xt3.us/unreel/bye. The address carries nothing about you or your settings. Unreel does not load or run remote code. One technical note: like many extensions, Unreel’s “blocked” page has to be reachable from websites (that’s how a link to youtube.com/shorts lands on it), so a website could in principle detect that Unreel is installed. It can’t read your settings or anything else.

Permissions

Access to the covered sites: to hide short video on those sites and nowhere else. storage: keep your settings and counters. declarativeNetRequest: send short-video pages (like youtube.com/shorts) to the blocked page before they load, and stop TikTok and Facebook video embeds from loading on other sites. scripting: start working in tabs that were already open when Unreel was installed or updated, so you don’t have to reload them. alarms: end a 5-minute pause on time.

Children

Unreel collects no data from anyone, including children.

Your control

Every site has its own switch in the toolbar popup. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored on the device. The synced settings copy is removed when you remove Unreel from every device.
